Fanny Brice was so dedicated to her famous character, the trouble-making toddler Baby Snooks, that she performed the role in full costume even when the show was only airing on the radio.Fanny Brice: America’s Funny Girl Funny Girl may have made Streisand a star, but it wasn’t the last word on the laughing-on-the-outside, crying-on-the-inside story of comedienne Fanny Brice. The Gershwins Remembered Songwriters George and Ira get their due in this Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota presentation, May 6 and 8 at the Historic Asolo Theater, featuring soprano Mary Elizabeth Williams, tenor Chauncy Packer, bass-baritone Kenneth Nichols and pianist Bob Constantino. 360-7399 or artistseries.net.

A Horse & A Ring If you haven’t yet visited the Ringling Circus Museum’s expanded Tibbals Learning Center, head there now for this show about equestrian acts that have thrilled audiences over decades of the American circus. Sarasota Festival of New Plays Florida Studio Theatre’s annual fest featuring staged readings of new plays and the acclaimed Under Six plays written by children will include a visit by former United States Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky, who brings his Favorite Poem Project to town May 11.
